Introduction
AreaScore ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our iOS app or visit our website areascore.co.uk.
Information We Collect
iOS App
The AreaScore iOS app does not collect any personal data. Specifically:
- We do not require account creation or login
- We do not collect your name, email address, or contact details
- We do not collect or store your location
- Postcodes you search are sent to our API to retrieve scores but are not stored or linked to you
- App preferences (such as recent searches and settings) are stored locally on your device using Apple's UserDefaults and are never transmitted to our servers
Crash Reporting
The app uses Firebase Crashlytics to collect anonymous crash reports. This helps us fix bugs and improve stability. Crashlytics may collect device model, OS version, and stack traces in the event of a crash. No personally identifiable information is collected. You can review Firebase's privacy practices at firebase.google.com/support/privacy.
Website
We collect information you provide directly on our website:
- Email address — when you sign up for our waitlist or newsletter
- Postcode — optionally, if you choose to share which area you're interested in
We may also automatically collect certain information when you visit our website, including your IP address, browser type, and pages visited through standard web analytics. We use Vercel Analytics, which is cookieless and does not track you across sites — no cookie consent banner is required for it.
Web App (Beta)
The AreaScore web app is currently an invite-only beta and requires an account. When you create an account we collect:
- Email address and authentication details — managed by Clerk, our authentication provider. Clerk processes this data on our behalf; see clerk.com/legal/privacy
- Anonymous usage events — such as searches performed, via cookieless Vercel Analytics
- Recent searches and preferences — stored locally in your browser (localStorage) and never transmitted to our servers
Postcodes you search in the web app are sent to our API to retrieve scores but are not stored against your account. You can delete your account (and the data Clerk holds) at any time from your account settings, or by contacting us.
How We Use Your Information
- To provide and improve the AreaScore app and website
- To fix bugs using anonymous crash reports (iOS app)
- To send you updates about AreaScore, including launch announcements (website sign-ups only)
- To respond to your enquiries and feedback
Data Storage and Security
App preferences are stored locally on your device and never leave it. Website email addresses are stored securely using Loops, a third-party email platform. We take reasonable measures to protect your information from unauthorised access.
Your Rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Withdraw consent at any time
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO)

Cookies
Our website may use essential cookies to ensure it functions correctly. We do not set advertising or tracking cookies of our own, and our analytics are cookieless. If you click an affiliate link (see below), the company you are taken to will set its own cookies under its own privacy policy — we have no control over those. The iOS app does not use cookies.
Affiliate Links
Some pages — such as our London borough pages and our packing supplies page — carry links to removals, broadband, energy, insurance, storage and retail companies including Amazon. These are labelled "Ad" where they appear. If you click one and go on to buy or request a quote, we may be paid a commission by that company or its affiliate network. This costs you nothing. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
We do not pass your name, email address or any other personal information to these companies. When you click, your browser tells them which page you came from, and we attach a reference identifying the borough page so we can see which pages are useful. Anything you then enter on their site is collected by them, not us, and is covered by their privacy policy.
Commercial links never affect our scores, rankings or the underlying data. No company can pay to change a score or its position in a ranking.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Firebase Crashlytics — anonymous crash reporting in the iOS app (Google)
- Loops — for email list management (website only)
- Clerk — for account authentication in the web app beta
- Vercel — for website and API hosting, and cookieless analytics
- Render — for database hosting
- Affiliate networks — to attribute commission when you click a labelled commercial link (website only)
- Amazon Associates — to attribute commission when you click a labelled link to Amazon (website only)
Children's Privacy
AreaScore is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
